Pola de Allande travel guide

See

A total solar eclipse on Wednesday 12 Aug 2026, starting at 20:27 and lasting two minutes. The chances of a clear sky are only 50%, and you need to find a spot with a clear view to the northwest horizon, where the sun will be setting. Coast is best: hilltops are more likely to be socked in by cloud, and after the show you’d have to descend an unfamiliar hill trail in darkness. Monumento al Emigrante looks down on the village crossroads. It's a bronze sculpture installed in 1990 to commemorate the many who left for the Americas. San Andrés is the parish church, at Plaza Hermanos Cadierno 5 in village centre. Capilla Virgen del Avellano is a chapel at Avellano 26 on the lane up to Palacio de Cienfuegos. 1 Palacio de Cienfuegos de Peñalba, Palacio 1. Shell of a 13th / 14th century castle, renovated in later centuries. You're unlikely to find it open. (updated Feb 2026)
