Forte Presanella

The Presanella Roadblock is an Austro-Hungarian fortification built at an altitude of 1880m on the right side of the Vermigliana Valley in Northern Italy. Work started in November 1906, and was finished in 1912. Presanella had the job of blocking the way to the Tonale Pass along with the other fortifications in the area. The original amount set aside for the fort was 198,500 Austro-Hungarian Crowns, but the total cost was 1,456,792 Crowns. The building was built to be self-sufficient, with optical signallers, ammo magazines, infirmary, kitchen, storerooms, and barracks.
