About Terchová
Terchová is a mountain town with 4,000 inhabitants in Central Slovakia. It is a nice and convenient base to hike the Malá Fatra, especially the Jánošík Holes and Chleb trails.

Getting there
Bus stop: Terchová centrum, next to the church. Buses to Žilina and the surrounding villages.
Getting around
Take the bus to Biely Potok, Štefanová or Vrátna for more hiking trails.

Do
1 Jánošík Holes trails (Jánošíkova Diery), Biely Potok 664. A stroll among forests, crevices and waterfalls with a hint of via ferrata, most impressive on Horné Diery. Start from Hotel Diery near Biely Potok (bus from Terchová every few hours). (updated Mar 2026)19.06660 2 Little Fatra (Malá Fatra). Peaks like Veľký Rozsutec, or ravine Jánošíkove diery make this area very worth the day or two of stay. Many trails for hiking and cycling: get a map at the tourist office (€2.50). (updated Nov 2016)
Eat
Jánošíková Koliba (1 km on the road to Biely Potok, soon after Hotel Jánošík): good local and Slovak specialties. €3-6 for most main dishes. A few restaurants in the town centre.
Sleep
Many pensions (penzión) and homestays (privát) along the riverside road starting opposite the church and in its neighbourhood. Typically €10/person for a privát.
