The municipality of 8,200 people (2018) encompasses the small town of Colonia Güell, with its many architectural masterpieces. In Santa Coloma de Cervelló municipality is located Colònia Güell — a famous and one of the most important modernist sites in the province of Barcelona.

Getting there

By train For Colonia Güell take FGC trains S4, S8 and S33 from Plaça d'Espanya, Barcelona, get off at Colonia Güell stop, then follow blue footprints painted on the pavement. Santa Coloma de Cervelló is the next stop. If, by chance, you are heading to Colonia Güell right from the airport by R2 Nord train, then you don't need to go to Plaça d'Espanya to get a FGC train. Instead you can make a change at Bellvitge RENFE stop (the 2nd from the airport) to Gornal FGC station (just cross a square) and save half an hour; or, if departing from Terminal 1, catch the L77 bus towards Sant Feliu and get off at the Sant Boi FGC train station (first stop after going adjacent to the railway tracks): Colònia Güell will be the second stop from there

Colònia Güell

1 Colònia Güell. Sa Su holidays 10:00-15:00. It is a tiny settlement built around a textile factory. The works began in 1890 and a number of renowned Catalan architects participated in this project: Antoni Gaudí, Francesc Berenguer, Joan Rubio. 2 La cripta de la Colònia Güell (The crypt of the Church of Colònia Güell). see Visitor Service Centre hours. Although it is unfinished and one of the most forgotten of his works, the crypt is a highlight in the creative work of Gaudí. Included in admission to Colònia Güell. Downtown 7 Església parroquial de Santa Coloma. In 1026, the altar of Santa Coloma within the Terme de Montpedrós is mentioned in the Sant Cugat cartulary. By 1089, the church is already documented as a parish, dedicated to Santa Maria and Santa Coloma. Starting in 1323, it began to be referred to as Santa Coloma de Cervelló. From the end of the 16th century, altars dedicated to Sant Antoni, Sant Sebastià, and Sant Roc are documented. (updated Sep 2023)

Every May there’s a festival to honor the cherries, which includes is an exhibition of different kinds of cherries.

Buy

The people come to live here to be quiet. There aren’t many stores because it’s very small but it’s safe and friendly. There is a tiny supermarket and a Tobacco shop at the street behind the visitors' centre. It has a square where every Sunday, many people take their children out to play. There is a farmer's market on Saturday mornings in Colonia Guell.

Eat

At the Colonia Guel there are a couple of restaurants and a cafe. Also in the lobby of the public toilet facility there are a couple of vending machines with drinks and snacks.

Drink & nightlife

It looks like there is no nightlife in this place.

Sleep

There are no hotels here, but Barcelona is only 20 minutes away by train. Perhaps you'd be able to find an apartment to rent here.
