The first written mention of Mollerussa dates back to the year 1079, - Mulieruciam - a document in which the counts of Barcelona gave Berenguer Gombau d'Anglesola a territory to be reconquered, repopulated and fortified. 1 Ajuntament de Mollerussa, Pl. Ajuntament, 2.. In October 1957, the destroyed part of the old church that remained standing was demolished. On the vacant plot, the building designed by the banc Caixa de Pensions per a la Vellesa i d'Estalvis was erected, with the aim of housing its offices, departments and the municipal library, until the construction of the current one. The rest was destined for the construction of the new town hall. The construction project was entrusted to the architect Manuel Cases Lamolla. The construction began with the part destined for the headquarters of the Pension Fund and, later, the headquarters of the local government, for this reason, the facade has two different tones. Finally, in 1960, the construction works of the new town hall building were completed. (updated Oct 2025) 2 Museu de Vestits de Paper, Ferrer i Busquets, 90-92. Since the mid-20th century, the National Paper Dress Competition has been held annually in Mollerussa. Over time, a small collection was formed with some of the most outstanding costumes, which were sometimes exhibited at the Teatre de l'Amistat, the space where the competition had traditionally been held and where the tradition began. In 1998, the town council began to take charge of the management of the theatre, the competition and the costumes, and shortly after the collection was located in the Galeries Sant Jordi, with the intention of becoming a museum.
