About Locri

Locri is a small coastal town on the Ionian Sea in the region of Calabria. Locri is best known for its proximity to the ancient Greek city of Locri Epizephyrii and its long archaeological heritage. Today it is a quiet, functional town serving as a gateway to nearby hill villages like Gerace, while also offering beaches, basic amenities, and a relaxed southern Italian atmosphere.

Getting there

Locri lies on the SS106 Ionian coastal highway and is the main rail stop for the surrounding area on the Reggio Calabria–Catanzaro line. Regional trains connect it south to Reggio Calabria and north toward Catanzaro.

1 Epizephyrian Locris. The most important attraction in the area, this archaeological site preserves the remains of the ancient Greek city of Locri Epizephyrii, founded in the 7th century BCE.
