Aqueduct of Lutetia

The ancient Roman aqueduct of Paris (also known as the Aqueduct of Lutetia) supplied Roman Paris, then called Lutetia. It was a significant engineering and architectural achievement, bringing water from the south, 26 km distant under gravity with a constant gradual slope. It was mainly built underground, with one middle section on great arches to cross the Bievre valley. The water it supplied was of better quality than that of the Seine.
