Ebro Way of St. James

The Ebro Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago del Ebro, also known as the Camino Jacobeo del Ebro) is one of the routes of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain. The route offers magnificent views of the Ebro Delta, passing through spectacular landscapes of Terra Alta, the arid areas of Bajo Cinca and Bajo Ebro or next to the great Mequinenza Reservoir.

Understand

The Ebro Way of St. James is one of the routes of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, much less popular than the French Way, which leads from France to Santiago de Compostela. The two join in the city of Logroño. The Ebro Way of St. James get the code ES14a by "Spanish Federation of Associations of Friends of St.James Way" ( Federación Española de Asociaciones de Amigos del Camino de Santiago ) The Ebro Way begins at the mouth of the Ebro, at a monument to the virgins of the Jacobean Rout, elevated on a small dune. It continues upstream from the province of Tarragona along the course of the river from which it takes its name, through Aragon and to La Rioja. In Logroño it joins the French Way, which comes from Saint Jean Pied de Port in France via Roncesvalles. The Camino de Santiago del Ebro is very well signposted and runs in many sections along the GR-99 route, known as the Camino del Ebro. Its central axis is the city of Zaragoza and its Basilica del Pilar. This route is very pleasant in terms of slopes but hard in terms of shadows, which are scarce in all stages. It is considered an easy route to do by bicycle and has accommodation and hostels in all possible stages. For the remaining distance from Logroño, and the issues at that stretch, see French Way.

Prepare

There is seldom infrastructure dedicated to pilgrims on the Ebro Way, such as albergues or pilgrim menus in restaurants. However, there is no lack of other accommodation.
