Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry (Basque: Baigorri) is a town in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in French Basque Country, historically part of the province of Lower Navarre. Nestled in the Aldudes valley on the Nive des Aldudes river, it sits near the Spanish border, with access to the Baztan valley in Spain via the Izpegi Pass.

The town's Basque name, Baigorri, means "red bank of the river," referring to the river Nive.

A historic town whose Viscounty was created in 1033 by King Sancho III of Navarre, Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry has a strong Basque identity. This connection is celebrated annually at the Nafarroaren Eguna (Day of Navarre), a major festival held in early May. It attracts thousands of people from both the French and Spanish sides of Navarre to strengthen cultural ties and affirm their shared heritage. The town was the chief town of its own canton before it was merged into the canton of Montagne Basque in 2015.

By car Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry is accessible via the departmental roads D15 and D948. It is the main access point to the Aldudes valley.

By bus A coach line connects the town to Ossès and is part of the TER Aquitaine network, offering connections to the wider region.

By foot The long-distance GR 10 footpath, which traverses the Pyrenees, passes through the area.

The town is small and best explored on foot. For reaching the surrounding mountains and valleys, a car is recommended.

1 Saint-Étienne Church (Église Saint-Étienne) (in the centre of town). First mentioned in documents from 1253, this church is the historic heart of the town. It features a notable 17th-century Baroque retable depicting the stoning of its namesake, Saint Stephen. 2 Château d'Etchaux. A 16th-century castle built by the Viscount of Baïgorry. It stands as a prominent landmark overlooking the valley. Roman Bridge (Pont Romain). An picturesque old stone bridge crossing the Nive des Aldudes river in the centre of town.

Nafarroaren Eguna (Day of Navarre) (throughout the town). Early May. If you are here in early May, don't miss this massive festival celebrating Navarrese and Basque culture with music, dancing, food, and parades. Hiking. The town is an excellent base for hiking. The GR 10 passes nearby, and numerous local trails explore the Aldudes valley and surrounding Pyrenean peaks.
