The flag is called Merkið and was recognized as the Faroese flag in 1940 by the British government, during the Second World war. The Faroe Islands were occupied by Great Britain while Denmark was occupied by Germany. The Faroese flag is celebrated every year on the 25 April in Fámjin as well as in other villages and town around the country. You can go for a walk up to the place where it is said that Viking Chieftain Hovgrímur is buried. You will find a sign pointing to the road and another one after 100 m or so, pointing towards north, a path goes a part of the way, but you must go a bit further on the grassy field in order to see the two stone piles, where the grave is said to be. There is not much to see of the tomb, only two piles of stone, but the story is interesting and the view is great up there. Ergifossur and Ergidalur (west
