Newport is the hub for Southern Vectis bus services throughout the island, so is easily reached from the other towns, including those where ferry services arrive from the mainland.

1 Carisbrooke Castle, Castle Hill, Carisbrooke, PO30 1XY (a mile and a half south west of Newport), ☏ +44 1983 522107. 10AM-4PM. In the 1640s King Charles I was imprisoned in this castle whose construction began in the 12th century. Visitors planning to visit both Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle should consider becoming members of English Heritage; it can work out cheaper than buying individual tickets for family groups and allows free access to all other English Heritage properties for the rest of the year.
