It's a municipality which includes several small villages. In 2000, UNESCO declared the set of Romanesque churches in the valley a UNESCO World Heritage Site . The Fallas festival, celebrated in 63 villages in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees (34 from France, 17 from Catalonia (including several in Vall de Boí), 9 from Aragon and 3 from Andorra) has been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Vall de Boi is the western entrance of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park.

By car N-230 runs north from Lleida to El Pont de Suert until Vielha. Then it continues until the French border. L-500 starts in N-230 north of El Pont de Suert and runs the Boi Valley L-501 starts in L-500 and climbs to Boí and Taull, also Pla de l'Ermita and the Boi-Taull ski resort There is a small local winding road from El Pont de Suert to Gotarta , Igüerri, Irgo, Iran, L-501 junction, Cóll. The road up the Sant Nicolau valley is only accessible by taxi and public transport to the access of the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park

UNESCO world heritage churches in Boi Valley

The Romanesque heritage of Vall de Boí is exceptional due to the existence of a large number of churches of the same architectural style concentrated in such a small area. Until well into the last century the valley remained quite isolated. The Romanesque paintings of the church of Sant Climent de Taüll, one of the most important jewels of the Catalan Romanesque, have an innovative presentation through a video mapping that recreates the original frescoes in the main apse and the presbytery of the central nave. The original painting dates from the 12th century and is preserved in the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya in Barcelona, MNAC.

Consecrated on December 10, 1123, by Bishop Ramon Guillem of Roda. First mentioned in a 1064 sale-exchange by Counts of Pallars Sobirà (Artau I and Llúcia) to Counts of Pallars Jussà (Ramon IV and Valença), alongside Erill Castle. Built over an 11th-century predecessor, retaining some fragments like south wall and lower apse. Shared parish with Santa Maria de Taüll; attempted Erill lords' monastic nucleus. Passed to Urgell Diocese in Late Middle Ages under co-rectors system. Key restorations: 1919-1922 mural extractions to MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya in Barcelona), 1970s, 2000-2001 (new murals discovered). €5.
