關於Kyparissia
Kyparissia is a coastal town in western Messenia, overlooking the Ionian Sea. Kyparissia is a relaxed and relatively untouristed destination, making it a good base for exploring western Messenia. Built on the slopes below a medieval castle, it is divided into two distinct parts: the atmospheric Upper Town (Ano Poli), with narrow lanes and traditional stone houses, and the modern Lower Town along the coast, centred around the harbour and beaches.

1 Kyparissia Castle. Overlooking Kyparissia from the Upper Town, this compact but historically significant castle occupies the site of an earlier Byzantine acropolis. Strengthened by the Franks after the 13th century, it preserves sections of its circuit walls and traces of a Byzantine keep embedded within later masonry. Though modest in scale, its hilltop setting and layered construction offer fine views and a tangible sense of medieval frontier history. (updated Jul 2026) 2 Upper Town. The Upper Town is Kyparissia's Old Town with winding alleys, restored houses, and small squares. It retains a strong traditional character and is ideal for wandering, with occasional viewpoints opening onto the sea below. (updated Jul 2026)
