Gerace is a striking medieval hill town in the region of Calabria, perched on a sandstone plateau above the Ionian coast. By train, the closest station is Locri on the Ionian coast line between Reggio Calabria and Catanzaro. Regional trains from Reggio Calabria and other coastal towns stop here frequently. Gerace is about 10 km from Locri and there is a very limited local bus services.Schedules can be infrequent and may be limited on weekends and public holidays, try Autolinee Federico. You may need to take a taxi By car, Gerace is reached via the SS106 coastal highway and then a steep inland road climbing up from Locri.

Gerace’s old town is a maze of stone-paved lanes, arches, and stairways, largely unchanged for centuries.
