Geography Cassano delle Murge is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Bari, in the Apulia region of southern Italy. It is located on the Murge plateau, a limestone upland area characterized by rolling hills, karst formations, and wide rural landscapes The town borders Sannicandro di Bari and Grumo Appula to the north, Acquaviva delle Fonti to the east, Santeramo in Colle to the south, and Altamura to the west. The surrounding territory is mainly rural and agricultural, with olive groves, woodland areas, and dry-stone walls typical of the Apulian countryside. Mercadante Forest The Mercadante Forest, located between Cassano delle Murge and Altamura, is a man-made forest created in the early 20th century to prevent flooding in the city of Bari. Today it represents the “green lung” of the province, rich in a wide variety of plants and trees.
