By road Barry is signposted from the M4 motorway at junction 33 (Cardiff West, A4232), the A4232 at Culverhouse Cross and the A48. Routes into Barry include:

A4050 - from Cardiff Culverhouse Cross (A48, A4232) and Wenvoe A4055 - from Cardiff International Sports Village (A4232) and Dinas Powys A4226 - from Bridgend and Cowbridge via A48, and Cardiff Airport B4265 - from the Glamorgan Heritage Coast and Llantwit Major B4267 - from Penarth and Sully Barry town centre is between 20 and 40 minutes from M4 junction 33, depending on the traffic, a direct route from London, Heathrow Airport, Reading, Bristol, Newport, Bridgend, Swansea and The Gower.

By bus Barry is on the Cardiff Bus network, with routes from:

By train Barry has four railway stations: Cadoxton, Barry Docks, Barry and Barry Island. Barry Docks is the closest railway station to the shops in Holton Road, which is an uphill walk. All stations are part of the National Rail network, served by Transport for Wales trains direct from the South Wales Valleys, Cardiff Queen Street, Cardiff Central, Rhoose Cardiff International Airport, Llantwit Major and Bridgend.
