Joe Biden leaves to attend G20 Summit

It is worth noting that the annual G20 Summit is happening later this week, and you should also note that the event is being held in India this year. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to welcome all the guests who are attending the Summit, including the US President Joe Biden. Also, we have been told that the US President has left for New Delhi and will reach there by today evening according to IST. Apart from that, a dinner has been fixed by the Indian PM in his honour where bilateral talks will take place too.

Do keep in mind that the attendance of US President in this Summit wasn’t smooth-sailing because Jill Biden got diagnosed with COVID a few days before this Summit but it is seen that Joe Biden has tested negative. Apart from that, Russia and China’s President Putin and Xi respectively are not attending the event this year due to different reasons. US President has already said he is disappointed that Chinese President is sending his counterpart and not attending it himself. US officials also mentioned that the G20 Summit, as well as US President’s stop in Vietnam, will be used “as an opportunity for the U.S. to highlight a proposition for developing and middle-income countries that would increase the lending power of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund by some $200 billion”.

They added, “Biden and Vietnamese General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will meet in Hanoi and are expected to announce plans to tighten economic cooperation.” As per sources, it is also revealed that “Leaders of the U.S., India, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates were working to finalize a joint infrastructure deal that could be announced in New Delhi”. Boarding the Air Force One for India, Jake Sullivan hinted about the deal saying “We believe that connectivity from India across the Middle East to Europe is incredibly important and would bring a significant number of economic benefits, as well as strategic benefits, to all of the countries involved,” and added that it is something “we’ve invested effort into with our partners.:”
