We mentioned earlier that there has been a growing trend of the #metoo movement in Taiwan after the release of a Netflix series which has brought up a wave of allegations along with it as well. People have realized that the same has happened to them as well and now they are coming out in the open and telling the story to everyone with the help of social media. It is worth noting, however, that the #metoo movement happened in the West and other parts of Southeast Asia before the pandemic and died down after a lot of celebrities and famous politicians were involved in such activities.

It must be said that the trend caught up very late in Taiwan, but we are glad that it did so that people can realize that they need to speak up for the wrong. Talking about the latest victim of the #metoo movement in Taiwan, a top government spokeswoman has resigned after she was reportedly having an affair with a government-appointed bodyguard. Presidential Office’s Kolas Yotaka has tendered her resignation to President Tsai Ing-wen and this has been done to avoid negative impact on her work and her government’s as well. It is worth noting that President Tsai has also accepted her resignation.

Kolas has mentioned that she is no longer in contact with the bodyguard and adds that truth will eventually come out for everyone to know. In a facebook post, Kolas wrote that she “wasn’t aware of the true situation in the man’s marriage and never had intimate behavior that crossed the boundaries with him.” She also added that the details in the media report were exaggerated and out of context as well. It is reported by the media report that levelled this allegations that Kolas is a confidant of Vice President William Lai, who will become the President of Taiwan if the current government is re-elected in next year’s elections. It is worth noting that we have seen such events taking place in many parts of the world as soon as elections are coming up which might or might not be a coincidence.
