Bosaso (PP News Desk) —  The Bari Security Committee yesterday introduced a raft of policies aimed to prevent demonstrations against the Puntland State Government.

In a statement read out by the Deputy Commander of the Bari regional police Major Yusuf Abdi Artan, the regional security committee warned the public against gatherings and demonstrations.

The Bari Regional Security Committee members haven’t specified the type of demonstrations they view as subversive.

“The security committee of Bari has held a meeting chaired by the regional governor. The meeting was attended by Puntland Maritime Police Force, Presidential Guards, and the Police Force. We discussed ways to strengthen the regional security due rumours about demonstrations. We urge Bosaso people to stop organisers of demonstrations. Public gatherings are not allowed to take place”  said Artan.

Security measures will remain in place for three days.

Two days ago the Puntland State Government arrested a Bosaso-based journalist who conducted a vox-pop on a policy speech delivered by Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni on Sunday.

“Puntland President supports the right of Mogadishu people to hold demonstrations against the Federal Government of Somalia but denies Somalis in Puntland the right to hold peaceful pro-federal government demonstrations ” said member of Bosaso civil society who asked for anonymity.
