Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — There is a growing dissonance in messages from the International Community on the Somali political deadlock.
The United States has recently urged Puntland and Jubaland to join the electoral summit without “preconditions” – as seen in a Tweet issued by the US Embassy in Mogadishu.
In what appears to be a political gaffe the Norwegian Embassy in Nairobi also urged the Federal Government of Somalia to transfer power.
“As a close partner, is deeply concerned about the lack of political will by all to seek a solution. The FGS
is obliged to secure swift transfer of power, as are all political actors. A successful way forward requires courageous leaders seeking consensus. #Somalia” tweeted the Norwegian Embassy although no elections have taken place.
“Somalia’s leaders need to find a compromise leading to an immediate electoral process and a peaceful transfer of power, through the implementation of the September 17 agreement” said High Representative / Vice-President of the European Union Josep Borrell, on the current political situation in Somalia.
The Puntland and Jubaland leaders, signatories of the 17 September electoral model, have boycotted the electoral summit currently underway in Mogadishu.
