India has successfully beaten Germany with 5-4 to win an Olympic medal in men’s hockey. This victory is the result of the stellar performance of the young Indian side. The team of Indian men has staged an amazing fightback. They were 1-3 down when they went to beat Germany. However, they have won the Olympic bronze.
India previously lost two of the matches in Tokyo in front of Australia and Belgium. India is offering hope after decades with its hockey team. The team has won eight Olympic gold medals, which makes it the most successful team ever. But the last gold it won was in 1980, in Moscow.
But the path to the Olympic Medal in Tokyo has been a roller coaster. India has finished second in its group with four wins. India has beaten Great Britain 3-1 in the quarter-finals. However, it lost to Belgium in the Semi-final.
The victory on Thursday was an edge – of the – seat affair. Two goals of Simranjeet Singh and one apiece from Hardik Singh, and Rupinder Pal Singh and Harmanpreet Singh were outstanding.
The forwards were very efficient and impressive. Sreejesh scripted the journey of this medal-winning. Without him, the team would have struggled much to make this victory.
Germany played in the first quarter with incredible pace. Florian Fuchs and Timur Oruz have scored the first goal for the team. The second quarter has seen a flurry of goals for both teams. India equalized in the 17th minute. Nilkanta Sharma offered a brilliant attack while passing it to Simranjeet Singh.
The goal has put India back in the game. But Germany earned it back in the 24th minute. Then it pumped another goal within the next minute when defender Surender Kumar lost the ball to Germany.
India bounced back again soon as Simranjeet Singh earned a penalty corner. Rupinder took the flick, and Hardik quickly took the rebound.
The Indian hockey team for women has also made history as they have reached the semi-finals for the first time. It shows that there is a sense of belief among them. They are fighting back even if they are trailing. They are not ready to give up easily.
