Wooden boat accident on Lulua River in DR Congo leaves ten children missing

A wooden boat capsized while crossing the Lulua River in the Central Kasai Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, leaving ten children missing, according to official reports.

According to eyewitnesses, the wooden vessel was carrying nearly thirty passengers, including both children and adults. There was no captain supervising the journey, and the crew lacked proper navigation skills. The hull encountered a sudden change in river currents while underway, causing the vessel to capsize. Officials are currently conducting search and rescue operations, but no bodies have been recovered yet.

Residents near the Lulua River crossing stated that this shipwreck is the fourth such accident in recent days. Expressing concern over the safety of wooden boat transportation, they called on the local government to strengthen vessel safety inspections and reduce the incidence of river accidents.

The frequent accidents on the Lulua River have raised concerns among local residents, who hope the local government will take measures to improve the safety of wooden boat transport and provide greater safety guarantees for riverbank communities.
