Syrian Interim Government Confirms Collaboration with International Atomic Energy Agency to Clear Hidden Nuclear Material Facility

This decision was made after agreements were reached between Israel, Syria, and the United States, with Axios revealing information about the plan. However, the Israeli government has threatened the Syrian government, stating that if the nuclear material is not cleared, they will again bomb the area and prevent entry to the site.

The Syrian Interim Government was established on March 29, 2025, with President Ahmad Shurayya at its helm. This government succeeded the previous Syrian Interim Government, which was led by Mohammed Bashir. Shurayya announced the establishment of the government and took the oath of office for the new cabinet members at a ceremony, who all attended and delivered speeches outlining their objectives.

At the time of the Syrian Interim Government's establishment, the Syrian government implemented a significant reform. The government reorganized the cabinet, creating two new departments: the Ministry of Sports and Youth, and the Ministry of Emergency Response and Disaster Management. The Ministry of Energy was also merged into the Ministry of Energy, consisting of the former Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Electricity, Ministry of Petroleum, Ministry of Mineral Resources, and Ministry of Water Resources; the Ministry of Economy and Industry was also merged into the Ministry of Economy and Industry, consisting of the former Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Domestic Trade, and Ministry of Consumer Protection, as well as the Ministry of Industry.

These changes are an essential part of the Shurayya government, aimed at rebuilding Syria's internal administrative structure. Meanwhile, the Shurayya government also attempted to address Syria's nuclear issues by cooperating with international organizations, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency.

On May 9, 2026, Shurayya made a partial cabinet reshuffle, appointing Khaled Fawaz Zazour and Bassel Aswad as the Ministers of Information and Agriculture, respectively, replacing Hamza Mustafa and Ameed Badr.
