In 1947, the United Nations adopted a partition plan for Palestine, proposing the establishment of separate Jewish and Arab states. However, the plan was rejected by the Arab population, triggering a civil war. Israel declared independence in 1948, marking the establishment of the state. Nevertheless, the creation of Israel also led to the loss of homes and livelihoods for many Palestinians, initiating a protracted Palestinian refugee crisis.
