Israeli Airstrike in Khan Yunis Kills Senior Hamas Commander Handan

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) issued a joint statement confirming that an IDF precision airstrike in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, has killed high-ranking Hamas commander Anas Mahmoud Ahmad Hamdan. According to Israeli intelligence, Hamdan was long considered a key aide to Mohammed Deif, the former commander of Hamas's military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades. Israel views this operation as a significant achievement in degrading the Hamas chain of command.

The targeted elimination of Hamdan is a continuation of Israel’s "decapitation strategy" against Hamas leadership, which has been ongoing since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7 of last year.
