IDF Kills Hamas Senior Commander, Regional Tensions Escalate Again.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Sinbete Security Agency announced that they had successfully killed the commander of Hamas’ Nukhba unit and another commander linked to Hamas’ intelligence unit. The incident has again heightened tensions between Israel and Palestine.

The IDF is Israel’s national military, established on 26 May 1948 by decree of the country’s first prime minister, David Ben‑Gurion. It consists of three branches—the Israel Army, the Israel Air Force and the Israel Navy—and is the sole military arm of Israel’s security system. The IDF is commanded by a Chief of Staff, who reports to the Minister of Defense. Since its founding, the IDF has taken part in every armed conflict involving Israel.

Hamas is a Palestinian Islamist organization founded in 1987 that seeks Palestinian independence through armed struggle. Its Nukhba unit is one of Hamas’ elite forces, tasked with carrying out high‑risk missions. Hamas’ intelligence unit also plays a crucial role, gathering intelligence and conducting covert operations. The IDF has repeatedly struck Hamas targets in an effort to weaken the organization’s military capabilities.

The conflict between Israel and Palestine has a long history, with both sides having engaged in armed clashes on numerous occasions.
