Taiwan U23 Baseball Squad Named, Featuring Eleven Pro Players

Regarding the upcoming U23 Baseball World Cup, the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association officially announced the highly anticipated training and tournament roster for the Taiwan national team today. This roster not only encompasses promising rising stars from various domestic Chinese Professional Baseball League clubs, but also includes standout overseas players developing in Nippon Professional Baseball. A total of eleven players with professional backgrounds have joined the squad, demonstrating the high importance the Taiwanese baseball community places on this international tournament. Among the many selected elite players, one of the primary focuses drawing attention from fans and the coaching staff is young pitcher Lin Po-yu, who plays for the Wei Chuan Dragons in the Chinese Professional Baseball League. His addition undoubtedly injects highly strategic, special pitching strength into Taiwan's pitching rotation, making the overall roster deployment appear more three-dimensional and complete.

According to the coaching staff's tactical planning and evaluation of player functionality, Lin Po-yu is a distinctive submariner and sidearm pitcher. In the modern baseball climate that pursues absolute velocity and power pitching, pitchers who utilize submarine or sidearm pitching mechanisms like Lin Po-yu can often exert surprising and suppressive effects on the international stage. Because the trajectory of such pitchers' pitches is completely different from that of conventional overhand or three-quarter pitchers, the angle of the ball entering the strike zone and its sinking movement require time for batters accustomed to fastballs to adapt. Therefore, they are often assigned special tasks in baseball tactics. The coaching staff described him as a "functional" unorthodox pitcher, meaning he will play a key tactical role in facing specific batting lineups, handling crises, or executing middle-relief assignments to disrupt opposing batters' rhythms.

With the official roster now finalized, the Taiwan national team is currently undergoing intensive training domestically. To enable the players to quickly adjust to their optimal competitive state and to foster team chemistry and tactical execution, the coaching staff has actively arranged a series of high-intensity practice games in addition to daily physical and technical training. Through live-action drills, the coaching staff can further observe the players' performances under pressure, test the chemical reactions of different pitcher-catcher pairings and batting lineups, and allow professional players who recently joined or returned to the team—including Lin Po-yu—to seamlessly integrate into the team system. This training period is crucial for the entire team; it is not only a period for physical conditioning, but also a critical moment to build team morale and establish a winning mindset.

According to the current schedule planning and logistical preparations, this U23 Taiwan national team, bringing together domestic and overseas elites, is scheduled to officially depart on November 3 to begin final preparations and acclimatization at the tournament venue. For the young players, the U23 World Cup is not only an international competitive stage, but also an important stepping stone toward future participation in top-tier national tournaments or even challenging higher levels of the professional stage. When facing strong opponents from all over the world, how to display the resilience and characteristics of Taiwanese baseball will be a joint task for the coaching staff and players. As the roster is unveiled and the departure date approaches, the anticipation among domestic fans is also rising, with everyone hoping that these young prospects can deliver exciting performances on the international stage and strive for the highest honors for Taiwan.
