Brothers Win Over Knights Despite Family Threats, Show Mental Strength

During a pivotal game four of the Chinese Professional Baseball League Taiwan Series, CTBC Brothers demonstrated tremendous resilience and team cohesion, with foreign pitcher Wizard (Sheng-Chi-Shih) stepping up under pressure to pitch 4.1 scoreless innings in relief, emerging as a major contributor to the team's victory. However, behind this stellar performance, Wizard was actually enduring unimaginable external pressure. Prior to the start of the game, Wizard's family had encountered malicious online threats on social media. Such intimidation targeting players' family members not only crossed the line of athletic competition, but also left the player and his family in distress and fear. Facing such severe off-field distractions, Wizard displayed extraordinary mental fortitude, channeling all his anger and worry into motivation on the field, and delivered the most powerful response possible with a series of brilliant pitches.

Teammate Chan Tzu-Hsien, speaking to the media after the game about Wizard's recent experiences and his performance on the field, admitted that he was deeply moved and touched. Chan pointed out that athletes competing on the field already carry the expectations of fans and the pressure of victory or defeat; having to additionally endure the malicious circumstance of family members being threatened is an extreme psychological torment for anyone. Yet, when faced with such irrational off-field attacks, far from being crushed, Wizard exhibited a high degree of professionalism and stress-resistance, stepping up when the team needed him most. This attitude of remaining calm in adversity and staying focused on his pitching duties not only won the admiration of his teammates, but also invisibly provided a tremendous sense of security to the entire coaching staff and roster.

From a tactical perspective, Wizard's long relief appearance in game four proved decisive for the CTBC Brothers' deployment. On the high-tension stage of the Taiwan Series, any managerial misstep could turn the tide of the game. That Wizard was able to pitch 4.1 innings after taking the mound and completely shut down the opposing batting order without giving up a single run not only significantly lightened the burden on the bullpen, but also bought valuable time and space for the team's core to mount a counterattack. The dominance he displayed at such a critical moment highlighted the true value of a top-tier foreign player. He proved his stress resistance with his actual performance on the field and fought back against all irrational noise with his pitching skills, allowing fans to witness once again the resilience of a professional athlete.

In recent years, with the proliferation of online social platforms and the rise of sports gambling, incidents of Taiwan professional baseball players and their families suffering from cyberbullying, malicious comments, and even intimidation threats have been frequently reported. Such behavior has far exceeded the scope of normal fan support or criticism of a team, evolving into criminal acts that endanger personal safety and mental health. The prevention of and legal recourse against similar incidents by the league, clubs, and relevant authorities have also become important issues in maintaining a healthy baseball environment. Wizard's experience with his family being threatened has once again brought this heavy topic to the forefront. Fortunately, Wizard chose to combat the darkness with his professional performance on the field. This was not only a personal victory, but also the strongest counterattack against all malicious threats, while reminding the general public of the importance of rational viewing and respecting athletes and their families.

In summary, the victory in this game was not merely a lead on the scoreboard, but a demonstration of mental toughness and team cohesion. The effort and professional attitude Wizard displayed by delivering a flawless pitching performance on the high-pressure stage of the Taiwan Series despite the off-field controversy were deeply moving. Chan Tzu-Hsien being visibly moved actually echoes the shared sentiments of the entire team and all fans who support justice and the sport of baseball. Following this game, Wizard not only solidified his position on the team with his ability, but also earned the boundless respect of all his teammates and fans. It is hoped that through such an incident and this positive on-field performance, all sectors of society will be awakened to the importance of valuing cyberbullying and athletes' rights, ensuring that every player fighting on the field can showcase their best self in a secure environment.
