Armed threat at Taoyuan Airport triggers panic and swift police response

On December 12, a serious armed intimidation incident took place at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. A man brandished a knife inside the terminal, holding a person hostage and uttering threats against multiple passengers and staff members. Prosecutors believe that the suspect's knife-wielding actions constituted a direct threat to the lives and safety of passengers, and that his intimidation tactics were sufficient to cause panic among victims, meeting the statutory elements of the aforementioned offenses. The application for detention incommunicado aims to prevent the suspect from fleeing, colluding with accomplices, or posing a renewed threat to society.

Taoyuan International Airport is one of Taiwan's busiest international aviation hubs, handling tens of thousands of domestic and international travelers daily. Over the past few years, the airport has repeatedly faced various security incidents, including luggage thefts, passenger conflicts, and a small number of armed intimidation cases.
