Wetherby Racecourse

Wetherby Racecourse is a racecourse situated near the market town of Wetherby in West Yorkshire, England, located 12 miles (19 km) from Leeds city centre. For most of its history the course has hosted only National Hunt racing but has also staged Flat racing since 2015. A circuit of the course is around 1½ miles. The current racecourse opened in 1891 but the Wetherby area has played host to racing since the late 17th century and potentially even in Roman times. Racing was being held on Wetherby Ings but moved to the current site in 1891, and has grown ever since. Facilities have regularly been improved from extremely basic buildings ever since opening, and the racecourse has benefitted from both rail and road links. It was used for billeting during World War II. More recent developments include the opening of the Millennium Stand in 2000, the Bramham Hall in 2007 and the Millennium West development in 2017, befitting a racecourse which hosts many significant races, most notably the Charlie Hall Chase; this Grade 2 race is often used by staying chasers to start their season, and past winners have included One Man, See More Business and Cue Card.
