Longue Pointe

Longue Pointe (French for "Long Point") is a remote peninsula on the eastern shore of James Bay in Nord-du-Québec, Canada, northwest of the Cree community of Chisasibi. The peninsula projects westward into James Bay and is accessible by an unpaved road from the vicinity of the La Grande-1 generating station. Hydro-Québec describes Longue-Pointe as a peninsula extending into James Bay and located less than 45 minutes by road from La Grande-1. Longue Pointe lies within Eeyou Istchee, the traditional territory of the Cree of eastern James Bay. The surrounding Chisasibi region has evidence of Indigenous occupation extending back more than 5,000 years. Longue Pointe is among the remote coastal locations accessible by road from the Billy-Diamond Highway and the road network developed in association with the James Bay Project.
