Taiwan Selected for WTO Public Forum Session for Seventh Time, Showcasing Trade Strength

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially announced a major achievement in international participation today, stating that Taiwan has once again successfully bid and been selected to host a dedicated panel session at the World Trade Organization (WTO) annual Public Forum, held at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. This marks the seventh time that Taiwan's public, private, and academic sectors have hosted an officially recognized seminar on this prominent global multilateral trade and economic platform. This achievement not only highlights international recognition of Taiwan's substantive contributions to the fields of international trade and digital governance, but also steadily and robustly expands Taiwan's international visibility and substantive participation space amid the current turbulent geopolitical and economic environment.

The WTO annual Public Forum has consistently been one of the largest and most influential dialogue platforms in the global economic and trade sector, attracting government officials, industry leaders, academic authorities, and non-governmental organization representatives from around the world every year. In such a highly competitive and officially oriented international arena, Taiwan's success in standing out and being selected to host seminars for multiple consecutive years is by no means accidental. Behind this lies the high recognition and substantive trust accorded by the WTO Secretariat and the international community toward Taiwan's long-standing pivotal role in global supply chains, as well as its outstanding performance in promoting digital transformation and cross-border trade for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The core theme of the seminar Taiwan was selected to host focuses on the most cutting-edge challenges and opportunities in current global trade and economics, exploring in depth how emerging technologies can concretely assist micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in breaking through barriers, successfully expanding into global supply chains, and seizing massive business opportunities in cross-border services trade. With the rapid development of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, and blockchain, the rules of the game for traditional trade are being comprehensively reshaped. However, MSMEs, with their relatively limited resources, often face greater survival and development pressures when confronting digital transformation, compliance costs, and information gaps. Long serving as the backbone of economic development with its SMEs, Taiwan has accumulated rich and unique practical experience in how to leverage technological empowerment to help SMEs integrate into global value chains.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that as a loyal member of the WTO, Taiwan has always firmly defended the rules-based multilateral trading system. Through the in-depth discussions and experience sharing at the Geneva Public Forum, Taiwan has not only demonstrated to the international community its concrete achievements in promoting inclusive growth and the digital economy, but has also actively conveyed its firm determination to join hands with global partners to jointly address future economic and trade challenges. This practical-oriented international participation helps prove to the world that Taiwan is an indispensable key partner in maintaining the security and stability of global supply chains, while further consolidating Taiwan's legitimate status and voice within the international economic and trade system.
