Kaohsiung Taishu unveils automated plant; T112 rifle to replace all in five years.

National defense autonomy and the modernization of individual combat capabilities have reached a significant milestone. The 205th Factory of the Armaments Bureau’s Production Manufacturing Center under the Ministry of National Defense, located in Kaohsiung's Dashu District, recently unveiled its automated production line to the public for the first time. Tailored specifically for the ROC Armed Forces' new-generation standard service rifle, the T112, this production line precisely integrates robotic arms with advanced digital manufacturing processes. It not only demonstrates the manufacturing prowess of the domestic defense industry but is also projected to produce tens of thousands of new rifles annually over the next five years. This will comprehensively accelerate the replacement process of the military's primary individual weapons, carrying profound implications for enhancing overall defense combat capabilities.

Reviewing the evolution of individual weapons in the ROC Armed Forces, domestically manufactured rifles such as the T65K2 and T91 have served as the core backbone for the past several decades, effectively meeting the military's defense needs within their respective historical contexts. However, with the rapid changes in modern battlefield environments, a significant increase in the proportion of urban warfare, and the diversification of individual combat requirements, current service rifles have gradually encountered upgrading bottlenecks regarding the expansion of optical sights, the integration of modular accessories, and ergonomic design. To align with the standards of individual equipment used by advanced nations, the Ministry of National Defense has actively promoted a new-generation rifle R&D program in recent years, giving birth to the T112 rifle, which boasts superior performance and better meets modern combat requirements.

The core highlight of the newly unveiled T112 rifle production line lies in its comprehensive introduction of automated and intelligent manufacturing technologies. The Armaments Bureau's 205th Factory has long shouldered the responsibility of producing light weapons for the military. As the original plant relocated to the Dashu military camp in Kaohsiung, the military took the opportunity to carry out a modernization upgrade of its production lines. The new facility has discarded some of the older, traditional operation modes that heavily relied on manual labor, replacing them with robotic arms for high-precision assembly and inspection. Through the introduction of automated equipment, not only have tolerances and errors potentially caused by human operation been substantially reduced, but the self-sufficiency rate and overall quality of critical firearm components have also reached unprecedented levels of stability, ensuring that every rifle leaving the factory meets the most stringent military standards.

In terms of production capacity and the equipment replacement schedule, the launch of this automated production line will play a pivotal role. According to planning, the line is capable of steadily producing tens of thousands of T112 rifles annually in the future. Faced with the current grim regional security situation and geopolitical challenges, the military must complete the equipment upgrade of existing forces within the shortest possible time. Through a scale effect yielding ten thousand rifles a year, the military will be able to systematically distribute T112 rifles to various combat units in phases over the next five years, allowing frontline officers and soldiers to quickly familiarize themselves with the operational characteristics of the new weapons, thereby comprehensively enhancing the engagement capability and sustained firepower of grassroots units.

The mass production and deployment of the T112 rifle represent far more than a simple replacement of old firearms; they symbolize the deepening and maturation of the domestic defense industry's independent supply chain. From the smelting of gun barrel steel and precision machining of critical components to final assembly and testing, the domestic defense industry has demonstrated a high degree of independence and self-reliance. This reduces reliance on external supply chains and ensures that production capacity can be maintained without interruption during any critical moment. This holds irreplaceable strategic value for strengthening Taiwan's overall defense resilience. As the automated production line operates at full speed, the individual combat effectiveness of the ROC Armed Forces is advancing toward a completely new stage of development.
