Krishna Raja Sagara

Krishna Raja Sagara, also popularly known as KRS and locally as Kannambadi Katte, is a lake and the dam that creates it. They are close to the settlement of Krishna Raja Sagara in the Indian State of Karnataka. The gravity dam made of surki mortar is below the confluence of river Kaveri with its tributaries Hemavati and Lakshmana Tirtha, in the district of Mandya. Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV, Maharaja of Mysore, sanctioned construction of the dam during a period of famine and financial strain on the state treasury, and it was named after him. Its construction, and the terms under which it was permitted, were the outcome of a decades-long negotiation between the Kingdom of Mysore and the Madras Presidency over rights to the waters of the Kaveri — a dispute that continues in modified form between the successor states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu today. There is an ornamental garden, Brindavan Gardens, attached to the dam.
