Taiwan Showcase at Lyon Illustration Festival Highlights Diverse Cultural Arts

The Lyon International Illustration Festival opened on the 28th. As one of France's most internationally influential illustration events, it attracts illustrators and audiences from around the globe. This year's festival features a "Taiwan Focus" special section, inviting multiple Taiwanese artists for residency creations to present Taiwan's diverse culture and creative practices to the French audience.

The core of the "Taiwan Focus" lies in using illustration as a medium, allowing audiences to independently construct their imagination of Taiwan through various forms such as posters, picture books, animations, and VR. This cross-media presentation breaks through traditional map-like perceptions, translating Taiwan's history, landscapes, and social dynamics into visual storytelling.

During the art residency program in Lyon, Taiwanese artists co-created in local studios and communities, exchanged ideas with French peers, and combined traditional Taiwanese elements with modern technology. Through interactive workshops and open creation processes, participants were able to personally experience the creative inspirations and techniques of Taiwanese illustration.

Held annually since 2007, the Lyon International Illustration Festival has become a major gathering place for illustrators worldwide. Taiwan's visibility on the European cultural stage has been steadily rising since the 2010s. This "Taiwan Focus" not only showcases the works of individual artists but also symbolizes the expansion of Taiwan's cultural dialogue and international influence.
