Woodinville

Understand

Woodinville was founded in the late 19th century by Ira Woodin, and was a small logging town along the Sammamish River until the 1960s. The growth of Seattle caught up to it and it became a leafy and desirable suburb. In 1993, Woodinville was granted city status. Around that time, the longstanding Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery and newcomer Redhook Brewery became widely noticed, and additional wineries quickly sprouted up throughout the Sammamish River valley.

Getting there

By car State Route 522 (WA-522) runs through the northwest of the city. WA-522 connects to Interstate 405 (I-405) less than one mile to the west. State Route 202 (WA-202), signed as Redmond-Woodinville Road, comes in from Redmond to the south, through the Sammamish Valley. The city is 20 minutes west of Duvall via Woodinville-Duvall Road.

By bus Near downtown there is a park-and-ride with connections to metropolitan King County.

By bicycle The Burke-Gilman Trail runs along the western rim of Lake Washington through Seattle and Lake Forest Park, then along the Sammamish River through Kenmore, Bothell, Woodinville, and Redmond. Despite the hilly surroundings, the track is flat as it used to be a railway line.

Public transportation is few and far between so a car is recommended.

Wineries and distilleries Although the grapes are grown elsewhere, there are over 75 wineries in the city and surrounding areas. Most offer wine tastings and tours.

Woodinville has several strip malls and is home to Target, Petsmart, Barnes & Noble, Eddie Bauer, Office Max, TJ Maxx, Home Depot, Costco as well as several grocery stores and chain fast-food eateries.

Located south of downtown is The Herbfarm, Seattle's premier dining experience.

Drink & nightlife

You're never far from a wine tasting - the city features over 130 wineries.
