Understand
Wajir City has a population of about 130,000 people (2019). Somali, Swahili, and English are the main spoken languages, so you may or may not be able to communicate with locals. The Kenyan shilling and the American dollars will both be widely accepted.
Getting there
1 Wajir Airport (WJR IATA). Wajir Airport connects Wajir town with various other locations including Hargeisa, Mogadishu, Dubai, Addis Ababa, and Dire Dawa. It is a medium-sized airport with a drink stand. It has high security due to its proximity to Somalia. (updated Nov 2023) Wajir is also accessible by taking a long bus ride from Nairobi.
Getting around
There are taxi services including Kaributaxi from the airport to locations around the city. Auto-rickhaws (three-wheeled small vehicles) are popular here. You can also get around in matatus (minibuses).

There is a wildlife refuge near the town known as Marsabit National Park & Reserve.

The I-Mall is the largest mall in Wajir, and is full of stores and such.
