Ibibio speakers make up the majority of the population. They are mostly farmers, fishers and traders. Travellers will find many types of seafood available in this coastal town, including fish, prawns, periwinkles, crabs and lobsters.

Economy The climate of the state allows for favorable cultivation and extraction of agricultural and forest products such as palm produce, rubber, cocoa, rice, cassava, yam, plantain, banana, maize, and timber. In Uyo State maize (Zea mays L) is cultivated on a large scale.

Transportation: Taxicabs, buses and ferries dominate public transport. They are usually inexpensive and are often used for multi passenger pick ups.
