Tone is located in the most southern part of Ibaraki. Its name derives from the Tone River.

The town government's official site has a conservative, Japanese-only tourism section.

It's about 50 min by car from central Tokyo. Narita Airport is nearby.

1 Kunio Yanagida Memorial Park, 1787-1, Fukawa, ☏ +81 297 68 7189. 09:00-16:30. The house of Japanese folklorist "Yanagida Kunio" is preserved. Materials related to Kunio are on display there. Free. 2 Tokuman-ji Temple, 3004, Fukawa, ☏ +81 297 68 2442. The temple was founded in the 16th century. Free. 3 Kōmō Shrine, 882, Tachigi, ☏ +81 297 68 7278, fax: +81 297 68 8957. Very old shrine. According to oral heritage, it was founded in 288BC lore and there are written records dating back to 698AD. Free. (updated Jun 2017)

Donto-Yaki (どんとき). In mid-January, New Year offerings are burned around the town.
