Understand
Somesville is at the north end of Somes Sound. The village was established by Abraham and Hannah Somes in 1762. They were the first European settlers on the island. It attracted many people because of its mills and quarries. The entire village is part of the Somesville Historic District.
Getting there
Somesville is on Route 102/198 about 10 km south of the bridge from Trenton on the mainland.

The village of Somesville and the harbor area are listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. The district extends along Main Street from Denning Brook to Maine State Route 3, and encompasses the entire shoreline of the harbor as far south as Mason and Squantum Points. It includes: the 1828 Isaac Somes House, the oldest in the village, and the 1852 Union Church. 1 Beech Hill Farm, ☏ +1 603-223-0828. A beautiful little farm. Produce is sold, and is also used to stock the College of the Atlantic's dining hall. 2 Somesville Historical Society Museum and Gardens. It details the history and development of the island and its people.
