About Seongnam

Seongnam is the fourth largest city in South Korea's Gyeonggi Province after Suwon and the 10th largest city in the country. Its population is approximately one million. It consists of three administrative districts: Bundang District, Jungwon District, and Sujeong District.

Seongnam, one of the foremost planned cities in South Korean history, was conceived during the era of President Park Chung Hee for the purpose of industrializing the nation by concentrating electronic, textile, and petrochemical facilities there during the 1970s and 1980s. The city featured a network of roads, to Seoul and other major cities like Gwangju, Gyeonggi, from the early 1970s on. Today, Seongnam has merged with the metropolitan network of Seoul. Seongnam has also served as a "test bed" of South Korea's urban planning history. Bundang, one of the successful new town projects in the country, has been settled in the southern half of Seongnam since 1991.

The city is also home to K League football club Seongnam FC.

Getting there

By train There is no directly liked to the city. You can get off at Suseo Station on the STR line or Seoul Station on the KTX line, and then transfer to the subway lines linked to the stations.

By subway Seonganm has two three subway lines: Metro 8 Line, Bundang line, and New Bundang Line. The New Bundang Line directly links between Gangnam Station and Pangyo Station, but its charge is more expensive than two other lines.

By bus If you want to visit Bundang or Pangyo from Seoul, taking express buses is also recommended. Becuase Wirye doesn't have a subway line crossing the area, you need to take a bus to get around the area.

Getting around

By subway You can visit most places in the city by subway. Some places are not linked by the subway lines, and then you need to take a town shuttle bus.

By bus The city has a convenient bus transport system. It is very convenient to use local map apps, such as Kakao Map or Naver Map to find bus routes. Local people prefer to take a bus when they move between the old town and Pangyo.

By taxi You can take a taxi at a taxi stand, or hail one on the street. It is recommended to use local taxi hailing apps, such as Kakao T, because taxi drivers are not very likely to understand English or other foreign languages.
