Saquarema is a town of 91,000 people (2016) in the state of Rio de Janeiro, in the Southeast of Brazil.

Understand

Saquarema has beautiful beaches: Massambaba, Barra Nova, Prainha, Boqueirão, Itaúna, Jaconé, Vilatur and Vila, with favorable conditions for surfing. One of the most famous is Itaúna beach. A predominantly tourist city, it is also known as "The national surfing capital". The waves on its beaches are among the best in the country.

Getting there

By bus From Rio the "1001" bus ride costs R$33 (Dec 2021).

By carpooling There are rides offered from Rio for around R$25 (Dec 2021) on Blablacar.

By car It is about 100 km from the city of Rio de Janeiro. The main road accesses are:
