Sandıklı travel guide

Getting there

By bus

By train Sandıklı has a train station across the highway from the town. The Pamukkale Express is the single daily train calling there. Northwards, it departs from Denizli at 9:45 to arrive in Sandıklı at 13:15 (140 TL as of Sep 2023, about €4.85), while southwards it departs from Eskişehir at 11:10 (165 TL as of Sep 2023, about €5.70), calls at Kütahya at 12:30 (140 TL as of Sep 2023, about €4.85), at Afyon A. Çetinkaya (main station) at 14:30 (60 TL as of Sep 2023, about €2.05), and arrives in Sandıklı at 16:05.

By car Sandıklı lies right on the highway D650, which is for the most part upgraded to motorway standards, and connecting Istanbul with the major resort city of Antalya on the Mediterranean via Afyon to the north of Sandıklı, and Burdur to the south.

By thumb Getting a lift from Burdur in the south is not very hard.

Getting around

Sandıklı consists of the twisting alleys of the older uphill part of the town, and the adjacent newer part along the wide avenue leading to the highway skirting the town to west, with the not-so-big central square between these two parts. Walking from highway to the square takes about 20–25 minutes.

See

Hisar Kalesi (the Castle) (very close to the town centre (çarşı)). The castle hosts a cafe that is open till midnight during summers.

Do

Hüdai Kaplıcaları. Is a hot spring run by the town council offering mud baths and various other treatments.

Buy

There are a number of banks along the edges of town square, with ATMs available on their walls facing the square.
