Sakunami Onsen travel guide
Understand
Tourist information site The local tourist association has a Japanese-only guide site.
Getting there
Sakunami is about 20 minutes by train on the Senzan Line from Sendai.
Getting around
From Sakunami Station there are hotel shuttle buses to two hotels.
Do
Sakunami is a hot spring town, so pretty much the only thing to do is loll about in hot water. Ichinobo (see Sleep) permits day-use guests to drop in.
Sleep
Ichinobo (300m from Iwamatsu, down a slope and over a small bridge.). This is a very nice hotel and has both indoor and outdoor baths, though the outdoor bath is rather small. Free bus to/from Sakunami station running hourly. Bath for ¥1,700. Iwamatsu. A big outdoor area with a few baths next to a river. Great just after winter when the snow from the mountains is melting and the river is rushing by. Onsen for overnight guests only.
