Patuca National Park

Understand

The park covers an area of more than 3700 square kilometers. It was established as a national park in 1999. The park suffers significant illegal clearing and settlement as the government is ineffective in adequately protecting the land. Deforestation continues to be a significant threat.

Getting there

The nearest town is Catacamas which is a 4-1/2 hour bus trip from Tegucigalpa on local chicken buses. The cost will be about US$5. Once in Catacamas you will need to hire a taxi or find other transportation into the park. The transportation may involve walking though locals with motorbikes can probably be hired to take you into the park. The Rio Patuca goes through the park and you may be able to hire a boat to take you into the park.
