Outjo is a city of 8,400 people (2011) in Kunene, Namibia referred to as The Gateway to Etosha.

Getting there

Reach via C39 and C38, on the road to the Etosha National Park. Outjo is 90 km (56 mi) southwest of Anderson Gate. Damaraland is also reached by travelling through Outjo on the C39 to Khorixas, and the C40 towards Kamanjab leads to the Kaokoveld.

1 Naulila Monument. It commemorates the small expedition on the Portuguese fort of Naulila in Angola by Major Viktor Franke in October 1914 following the massacre of a German delegation which had been sent to negotiate a treaty of non-aggression. (updated Nov 2021) 2 Franke Haus Museum. This local history museum details Major Viktor Franke's campaign in Ovamboland. 3 German Watertower. Built in 1904. It used to be equipped with a wooden wind turbine, was used for water extraction. (updated Nov 2021)

4 Vingerklip. A fingerlike rock formation near the city that was created by erosion called.

Namibia (SWA) Gemstones, 8 Hage Geingob Ave. Has a comprehensive selection of gemstones and minerals, specialising in Tsumeb minerals and are world-renowned amongst mineral collectors. It is also the local tourist office and is very helpful for local information and has maps for sale. You will also find a decent spread of Etosha information and souvenir books. The owners speak English, German and Afrikaans.
