Ossetia

About Ossetia

Ossetia is the homeland of the ethnic Ossetes in the Greater Caucasus mountain range. The Soviets split the region between Russia and Georgia, and Georgia's portion has since declared independence.

North Ossetia - an autonomous republic of the North Caucasus.

South Ossetia - a Russian-backed independent state that separated from Georgia.
