Mungyeong is a spread-out city made up of several towns, so getting around usually requires a bus, taxi, or car. The main transportation hub is Jeomchon, where most intercity buses and trains arrive.
By bus Local buses and minibuses connect Jeomchon with nearby areas such as Mungyeong-eup, Gaeun, and the entrance to Mungyeong Saejae Provincial Park. Most routes start from the Jeomchon Intercity Bus Terminal or nearby bus stops in downtown. Services run roughly every 20–40 minutes during the day, but are less frequent in the evening, with the last departures usually around 20:00. Fares range from ₩1,500 to ₩2,500 depending on distance. You can pay in cash or by transportation card (T-money or Cashbee). Bus stops and destination signs are written in Korean, but major stops such as Jeomchon Station and Mungyeong Saejae are also shown in English. Timetables are posted at main stops, though schedules may vary slightly on weekends and holidays. For visiting rural attractions like Mungyeong Coal Museum or Jinnam Bridge, inter-town buses operate a few times a day, so it’s best to check return times in advance or consider using a taxi for flexibility.
By taxi Taxis are widely available around Jeomchon Station, Mungyeong Bus Terminal, and major tourist attractions. Within downtown Jeomchon, most short rides cost between ₩5,000 and ₩8,000. A trip to Mungyeong Saejae Provincial Park usually costs around ₩15,000–20,000, while reaching the Mungyeong Coal Museum in Gaeun may cost about ₩30,000–35,000. Taxis can be hailed on the street or booked using the **Kakao T** app, which supports English menus and international payment options. Drivers may not speak English, so having your destination written in Korean is helpful. All taxis use meters, and tipping is not expected.
By car Having a car is the most convenient way to get around Mungyeong, as most attractions are spread out and public transportation can be infrequent outside Jeomchon. Roads are generally well maintained,
