About Munger
Munger, formerly spelt as Monghyr, is a twin city and a Municipal Corporation situated in the Indian state of Bihar. It is the administrative headquarters of Munger district and Munger Division. Munger was one of the major cities in Eastern India and undivided Bengal during Mughal period and British Raj. It is one of the major political, cultural, educational and commercial centers of Bihar and Eastern India. Munger is situated about 180 km (110 mi) east of capital city Patna, about 480 km (300 mi) west of Eastern India's largest city Kolkata and 1,200 km (750 mi) from country's capital New Delhi.
Historically, Munger is known for being an ancient seat of rule. The twin city comprises Munger and Jamalpur situated on the southern bank of the river Ganges. It is situated 8 km (5.0 mi) from Jamalpur Junction, 180 km (110 mi) east of capital city Patna and 430 km (270 mi) from Kolkata the capital of West Bengal.
Munger is said to have been founded by the Guptas (4th century CE) and contains a fort that houses the tomb of the Muslim saint Shah Mushk Nafā (died 1497). In 1763, the Nawab of Bengal Mir Qasim made Munger his capital and built an arsenal and several palaces. It was constituted a municipality in 1864.

Getting there
By train 1 Jamalpur Junction ER (code: JMP). The main station, having trains from every city of East and North India and also from Mumbai, Bangalore, Nagpur, Guwahati etc. It is on the Gaya-Sahibganj and New Delhi-Howrah (Kolkata) rail routes. The station is about 6 km from Ganga Darshan campus, which encompasses Bihar Yoga Bharati University. The main train connections include Vikramshila Express, Surat-Bhagalpur Tapti Ganga Express, Farakka Express, Bhagalpur-Muzaffarpur Jansewa Express and Jamalpur-Howrah Express. By plane Nearest airport is Jai Prakash Narayan Airport (PAT IATA), Patna, 170 km connected from all major Indian cities. Gaya airport (GAY IATA) 185 km away is connected with international destinations such as Kathmandu, Bangkok, Colombo, and Rangoon.
By road Buses are available from all town in Bihar and major town in East India but railway is preferred. Chartered cars is available from anywhere in India.
By boat Munger being on the banks of river Ganges is connected by waterways with hugli, Allahabad, Kanpur, Varanasi, Patna, Haridwar, Bhagalpur, etc.

Very cheap and good quality guns. Amazing but true at one side this town gives you peace in Bihar School of Yoga but violence in its great gun factories. It also has cigarette factories.
Eat
Extremely delicate cuisines of the city, available only in Munger are Parwal-ki-Mithai and Mutter-Pump. These two mouth watering dishes is beloved by every netizens of the district and are oblivious on the globe. Biharis are fond of food such as Litti chokha and Murga bhat (chicken and rice). Various places to eat are: Shivam, Rimjhim, Madras Coffee House, Sudha; many other restaurants are there. There's a saying that at every corner you can find a man eating something at a place of eating, Don't forget to have a delicious break fast here that is puri sabji and jalebi. Munger is also famous for jalebis, rasgullas and creamchops. Have a nice meal at Yoga Ashram (BSY). And always have an egg roll in the evening at any road side joint.
Drink & nightlife
Lassi is a very healthy drink you can get it anywhere in Munger. Alcohol is banned in Bihar. Taari can be useful if consumed early morning before sunrise.
