Milton travel guide

Understand

A rural town of 11 000 people (2020) north of Colchester, Milton is primarily a commuter town housing workers for nearby Burlington and Essex Junction. Established 1763, it is historically a forestry and dairy farming community; a now-defunct Milton Cooperative Dairy Corporation (1919-1974) served local farmers. Only a handful of farms remain in operation.

Getting there

Milton is on US Highway 7, bypassed by Interstate 89. Both lead north to St. Albans. US 2 crosses onto Grand Isle VT just south of the town to connect Burlington with the ferry to Plattsburgh, NY.

Getting around

The Green Mountain Transit operates a weekday commuter bus from Burlington.
